AHI to POTUS: U.S. Must Respond Strongly to Turkish Threats to U.S., Greece

NO. 82

WASHINGTON, DC — American Hellenic Institute (AHI) President Nick Larigakis wrote to President Joseph R. Biden citing the need for a strong response from the United States for threats made by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Turkish government officials toward the United States and Greece.

Larigakis September 29, 2022, letter detailed several recent examples of Turkish inflammatory statements and provocative actions, including Turkey’s September 27 issuance of demarches to the U.S. and Greek governments to protest the deployment of U.S.-made armored military vehicles to Greece.

“During a time of unprecedented global strife, American leadership is needed more than ever,” Larigakis said. “The Turkish government’s threating rhetoric against Greece and the United States is deeply concerning. It is always better to proactive and prevent a crisis, rather than to react after the fact. As such, it is high time for the United States government to hold President Erdogan and the Turkish government accountable, before the situation careens out of control.”
