AHI Represented in The Athenian Magazine’s “Men of Influence” Feature

NO. 105

WASHINGTON, DC —The Athenian magazine selected American Hellenic Institute (AHI) President Nick Larigakis and AHI-Athens Chapter President George C. Economou as part of the magazine’s “2021 Men of Influence” special feature. The Athenian published the list in its November 2021 issue.

“Thank you to the editorial staff at The Athenian magazine,” President Larigakis said. “It’s an honor to be recognized by such a prominent magazine and to be included among a distinguished group of community and industry leaders.”

The selectees answered three questions pertaining to COVID-19’s impact on business forecasts, the qualities and characteristics managers should possess, and the geopolitical changes affecting each individual’s respective business sector.

Larigakis on geopolitical changes: “There are geopolitical challenges facing the world across sectors, however, the American Hellenic Institute (AHI) specifically focuses on the Eastern Mediterranean region. Our organization has emphasized the importance of the Eastern Mediterranean to United States policy makers, and the need to upgrade relations between the United States and ally Greece, and strategic partner Cyprus, both of whom are pillars of stability. Furthermore, AHI promotes the enforcement of the rule of law and international law, including as it pertains to malign and destabilizing regional actors, such as Turkey, whose aggression and expansionist policies threats the peace and stability of Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa.”

Economou on the business forecast: “The forecast for the future is bleak. It takes time for the normal rhythms of the trade to return soon. We see this in the fall of production of basics, the gigantic increase of the cost of raw materials and the reduction of wages and salaries which now need to be supported, thus depriving the State of funds for developing new projects and creating new workplaces.”
