AHI Board Member Dr. Coufoudakis Presents at Diaspora Greek Communities Conference

WASHINGTON, DC — American Hellenic Institute Board of Directors Member Dr. Van Coufoudakis participated at a conference that examined the contributions of overseas Greek communities hosted by the Academy of Athens, in cooperation with the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs Greeks Abroad section, November 15, 2021.

Panelists representing the United States, Western Europe, and Greece presented on the contributions of diaspora Greek communities in sectors such as Medicine, the Sciences, Engineering, the arts, literature, social sciences and humanities as well as the challenges confronting these communities. Speakers also addressed the need for Greece to recognize the unique characteristics of diaspora communities and define ways to cooperate and benefit from these communities.

Dr. Coufoudakis spoke primarily on the contributions of Greek Americans in business, government, administration and in the field of Political Science. He also addressed the unique character of the Greek American community, which is now in its sixth generation.

“We thank the Academy of Athens and the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs Greeks Abroad section for inviting Dr. Coufoudakis to participate at this important event,” AHI President Nick Larigakis said. “AHI is proud of the contributions of board members, such as Dr. Coufoufakis, to the discourse impacting diaspora Greek communities.”

The American Hellenic Institute is a non-profit Greek American public policy center and think tank that works to strengthen relations between the United States and Greece and Cyprus, and within the Greek American community.
