NO. 80

Washington, DC—The American Hellenic Institute (AHI) congratulates U.S. Senator Bob Menendez (D-NJ), chairman, Senate Foreign Relations Committee, who received the highest civilian honors that the governments of Greece and Cyprus can bestow.

On August 27, 2021, President of the Hellenic Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou awarded Senator Menendez with the Grand Cross of the Order of Honor, Greece’s highest civilian honor.

President of the Republic of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades bestowed Senator Menendez with the Grand Collar of the Order of Makarios III, Cyprus’ highest honor, on August 30, 2021.

After receiving Greece’s highest honor, Senator Menendez thanked a variety of Greek and Cypriot American organizations, including AHI, for strengthening relations between Greece, Cyprus, and the United States.

AHI President Nick Larigakis attended Senator Menendez’s award ceremony in Cyprus.

“I congratulate Senator Menendez for his well-deserved honors from the Greek and Cypriot governments,” Larigakis said. “Senator Menendez has been a tireless and effective promoter of stronger U.S.-Greece, U.S.-Cyprus relations, and an instrumental voice in holding Turkey accountable. I look forward to Senator Menendez’s continued contributions to Hellenism and the rule of law.”
