AHI Works to Get High-Ranking State Department Nominee on the Record

NO. 45

WASHINGTON, DC — The American Hellenic Institute (AHI) wrote to the heads of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations asking them to consider a set of questions as they prepare for the nomination hearing of the Honorable Victoria Nuland for the position of Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs on April 15, 2021.

“It is important to get President Biden’s nominee to be the State Department’s next Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs on the record on our policy issues, especially because of the high level of United States engagement in the Eastern Mediterranean and the fact that Turkey remains a threat to peace and stability,” AHI President Nick Larigakis said. “Although we know President Biden’s long record on Greece, Cyprus, and religious freedom, it is our hope that Ambassador Nuland continues to take U.S. relations with Greece and Cyprus to new heights and hold Turkey accountable for actions that are not in the best interests of the United States.”

The set of questions that accompany President Larigakis’s April 14 letter to Chairman Robert Menendez (D-NJ) and Ranking Member James Risch (R-ID)  include the topic areas of: Greece, Cyprus, Turkey, and Religious Freedom.
