AHI Works to Get Secretary of State-designate Blinken on the Record

NO. 6

WASHINGTON, DC — The American Hellenic Institute (AHI) wrote to the heads of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations asking them to consider a set of questions as they prepare for the nomination hearing of the Honorable Antony J. Blinken to be U.S. Secretary of State. The hearing will take place January 19, 2021.

“It is important to get President-elect Joe Biden’s nominee to be the next secretary of State on the record on our policy issues, especially because of the high level of United States engagement in the Eastern Mediterranean and the fact that Turkey remains a menace,” AHI President Nick Larigakis said. “Although we know President-elect Biden’s long record on Greece, Cyprus, and religious freedom; and we are familiar with Secretary-designate Blinken’s work from previous Administrations, it is our hope Secretary-designate Blinken continues to take U.S. relations with Greece and Cyprus to new heights and holds Turkey accountable for actions that are not in the best interests of the United States.”

The set of questions that accompany President Larigakis’s January 15 letter to Chairman James Risch (R-ID) and Ranking Member Robert Menendez (D-NJ) include the topic areas of: Greece, Cyprus, Turkey, and Religious Freedom.
