AHI Commends Community’s Response to Coronavirus Pandemic

WASHINGTON, DC — As the global community continues to endure the coronavirus pandemic, the American Hellenic Institute (AHI) congratulates the diaspora’s response to COVID-19.

In particular, AHI commends the response of the Order of AHEPA, and its affiliated organizations, that encouraged their chapters worldwide to donate or volunteer time and resources, keeping safety as a priority, to assist front line professionals, vulnerable populations, and those in need. Though their AHEPA Cares initiative, and under the leadership of Supreme President George G. Horiates, an AHI member, they mobilized a global response to the coronavirus pandemic by:

  • Donating and delivering meals, face masks, sanitizer to front line heroes,

  • Delivering meals, goods, and financial aid to families in need and vulnerable populations, especially older adults,

  • Organizing blood donor drives and donating blood, and in Cyprus, facilitating affordable access to COVID-19 tests,

  • Donating $30,000 to medical research and data analysis on the spread of COVID-19 in Greece, and

  • Donating tens of thousands of dollars to charitable organizations.

In addition, patients in Greece were treated for COVID-19 at the AHEPA Hospital in Thessaloniki.
