WASHINGTON, DC — As the global community continues to endure the coronavirus pandemic, the American Hellenic Institute (AHI) congratulates the diaspora’s response to COVID-19.
In particular, AHI commends the response of the Order of AHEPA, and its affiliated organizations, that encouraged their chapters worldwide to donate or volunteer time and resources, keeping safety as a priority, to assist front line professionals, vulnerable populations, and those in need. Though their AHEPA Cares initiative, and under the leadership of Supreme President George G. Horiates, an AHI member, they mobilized a global response to the coronavirus pandemic by:
Donating and delivering meals, face masks, sanitizer to front line heroes,
Delivering meals, goods, and financial aid to families in need and vulnerable populations, especially older adults,
Organizing blood donor drives and donating blood, and in Cyprus, facilitating affordable access to COVID-19 tests,
Donating $30,000 to medical research and data analysis on the spread of COVID-19 in Greece, and
Donating tens of thousands of dollars to charitable organizations.
In addition, patients in Greece were treated for COVID-19 at the AHEPA Hospital in Thessaloniki.
A detailed account of the AHEPA Cares initiative in response to COVID-19 is provided in The Ahepan magazine.
