NO. 154

Washington, DC—To Vima, a leading newspaper based in Athens, Greece, highlighted the American Hellenic Institute’s (AHI) role to educate President-elect Joe Biden on issues concerning Greece and Cyprus since the 1974 invasion of Cyprus in a feature article titled, “The Unknown Story of the ‘Hellenization’ of Joe Biden,” To Vima published the feature on December 4, 2020.

Reporter Petros Kasfikis reached out to AHI President Nick Larigakis to inquire about the topic, and President Larigakis offered Kasfikis excerpts of letters sent to AHI from then-U.S. Senator Biden on issues pertaining to the eastern Mediterranean, dating back to the mid-1970s.

Also, in the 1970s, Dean Lomis, who served as AHI’s Public Affairs Committee chairman for eight years, and a constituent of then-Senator Biden’s, spearheaded the effort to properly educate Biden on U.S. policy issues impacting Greece and Cyprus.
