AHI Active In Greek Prime Minister’s U.S. Visit

WASHINGTON, DC —The American Hellenic Institute (AHI) was actively engaged in Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ multi-day visit to the United States. President Larigakis was in Tarpon Springs, Florida, on January 5th and 6th, as Prime Minister Mitsotakis was in Tarpon Springs to speak and be a guest of honor at the AHEPA Epiphany Grand Banquet. Also, the Prime Minister attended the Epiphany celebrations along with Archbishop Elpidophoros. President Larigakis participated in all the festivities, and during this time, had an opportunity to engage the Prime Minister on multiple occasion.

On Tuesday, January 7th, President Larigakis and Legislative Director Gerasoulis attended Prime Minister Mitsotakis’ remarks to the Atlantic Council, a Washington, DC, based think-tank.

Later that day, President Larigakis was invited to participate in a White House conference call focused on Prime Minister Mitsotakis’ visit with President Trump. The conversation was facilitated by Andrew L. Peek, Senior Director for European and Russian Affairs at National Security Council. Out of eighty-six individuals participating in the call, President Larigakis was one of the six who asked a question to Dr. Peek, in the off-the-record conversation.

On Wednesday, January 8th, the AHI also co-hosted a luncheon for the Prime Minister, at the Willard Hotel in Washington, DC. Other organizations that co-hosted included International Coordinating Committee — Justice for Cyprus (PSEKA), Leadership 100, Hellenic American Leadership Council (HALC), The Washington Oxi Day Foundation, and Order of Saint Andrew the Apostle. AHI President Larigakis, American Hellenic Institute Foundation (AHIF) President Costas Galanis, and an additional eight board members represented the organization at the luncheon. 

Later that evening, President Larigakis, along with American Hellenic Institute Foundation (AHIF) President Costas Galanis represented the organization at the State Department evening reception, hosted by Vice President Pence and Secretary of State Pompeo, honoring Prime Minister Mitsotakis.
