AHI President’s Note:  A good portion of policy formulation in Washington DC is influenced by analysts and academics of think-tank institutions.  As a service to our membership and constituency, and to gain an understanding of the position of other entities on our issues, the American Hellenic Institute attends and participates at policy forums or roundtable discussions to ensure the policy positions of the Greek-American community are represented.

Southeast Europe & East Med: New Strategies-New Perspectives

The Delphi Economic Forum hosted a discussion in Washington, DC on U.S. policy towards the Mediterranean, with the dialogue highlighting both the opportunities that the region currently presents as well as the challenges posed. A myriad of think-tank heads, academics, private sector executives, and officials from the highest levels of the Greek, Cypriot, and U.S. government participated.

Allies of the United States in the Eastern Mediterranean: The Importance of Pillars of Stability in a Sea of Instability (Washington, DC)

The American Hellenic Institute (AHI) hosted a discussion on the East Mediterranean, in Washington, DC, on October 31, 2019. The panel included individuals who incorporated the perspectives of Capitol Hill, think-tanks, the State Department, and the media.  The dialogue focused on the unreliability of Turkey as a U.S. partner, and the need of the United States to invest in alternative alliances, preferably in the Eastern Mediterranean Partnership of Greece-Cyprus-Israel.

Is Turkey Coming Back? Updating U.S. Policy

The Middle East Forum hosted a discussion on Capitol Hill, focused on condemning Turkey for its provocations and stressing the need for the West and the United States to reconsider its existing relationship with Turkey, including potentially removing Turkey from NATO. The panelists provided multi-faceted and multi-ethnic perspectives, including those from the Armenian, Kurdish, and Hellenic communities.
