WASHINGTON, DC — American Hellenic Institute (AHI) President Nick Larigakis wrote to President-elect Joseph Biden, Jr., to congratulate him on his election as President of the United States in a December 9, 2020 letter.
In addition, President Larigakis wrote that the Institute looks forward to working with President-elect Biden and his Administration to strengthen further the historic bonds of friendship between the United States and longtime ally, Greece, and strategic partner, Republic of Cyprus. Larigakis added that the promotion of the rule of the law in the Aegean and holding regional powers such as Turkey accountable for their behavior are also on AHI’s policy agenda for the new Administration.
“To that effect, we greatly appreciate the statement that you released on issues of concern to the Greek-American community during your campaign,” Larigakis wrote.
Larigakis also expressed hope the incoming Biden administration will avoid appeasement toward Turkey as his predecessors have done despite Turkey’s continued violations of U.S. laws and irredentism.
“We hope, given your comprehensive understanding of the Eastern Mediterranean and your consistent advocacy for the rule of law throughout your career, that you will take a different approach compared to previous administrations,” he wrote.
