AHI Mourns Passing of Former Cypriot Ambassador to U.S.

NO. 16

WASHINGTON, DC —The American Hellenic Institute (AHI) mourns the passing of Ambassador Andros Nicolaides, former ambassador of Cyprus to the United States. Ambassador Nicolaides passed away February 4, 2021.

“During his many years of service in Washington, Ambassador Andros Nicolaides worked closely with AHI Founder Gene Rossides, especially during the advocacy effort that led to the arms embargo on Turkey in 1975,” AHI Board Member Dr. Van Coufoudakis said. “Those of us who knew him, and worked with him, valued his insights on the Cyprus problem. He will be sorely missed.”

“Ambassador Nicolaides will be remembered fondly by the American Hellenic Institute and its members for representing the Republic of Cyprus and advocating for a just and viable solution to the Cyprus issue in a most effective and respected manner in Washington,” AHI President Nick Larigakis said. “His knowledge was extensive and his love for Cyprus was endless. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Ambassador Nicolaides family. May his memory be eternal.”
