Mayor of Sparta

Petros G. Doukas is Mayor of Sparta as of September 1, 2019, which is currently celebrating 2500 years since the Battle of Thermopylae. He received a BA in International Affairs from the George Washington University, an MBA in Finance from Columbia University, and a MA in Economics and a PhD in Economics from NYU. Mayor Doukas has served a number of roles during his professional career including: Vice-President of CITIBANK in New York in the Treasury Division, Country Head of CITIBANK Greece, Chairman of the Boards of PEPSICO Greece, ERICSSON Greece, AGET-HERACLES CEMENT, NOVA PAY-TV GROUP, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Deputy Minister of Finance, Member of Parliament for the Attica Region, and as President of the Hellenic Management Association. He is currently the chairman of the Hellenic Golf Federation, Capital Partners SA for Investment Banking Advisors, and the International Chamber of Commerce in Greece. Additionally, he remains an active Board Members of KEFIM -The Center of Liberal Studies, COMPETE.GR, the Greek Competitiveness Council, Sidra of Saudi Arabia European Development Fund Company Limited, and the Hellenic Steel in Thessaloniki. Mayor Doukas is a life-long member of The Jockey Club of Greece and a Distinguished Fellow of the Global Federation of Competitiveness Councils in Washington D.C. Having taken a great interest on how ancient Greek thought has affected our modern thinking and modern societies, he is the author of a number of scholarly books including: “Greece in the Era of the Euro” in 1999, “Modern Economic and Management Theories and Classical Greek Thought,” first published in 2003, and currently being edited for its 7th edition, “Sparta: The First Republican Democracy” to be published in March 2020, The Causes of the Rise and Fall of the Ancient Democracies” expected to be published May 2020, Centuries before Marx: Communist Ideas in Ancient Greece and “Ancient Greek Ideas and Thoughts on Leadership,” both expected to be published in late 2020. Mayor Doukas’ father, Greek Air Force General, George P. Doukas, was a WWII war hero, flying Spitfire fighters in North Africa and other fronts. His mother, Mary G. Anastos, from Boston and Nantucket, worked for President Harry Truman’s Press Secretary, in the White House. He is married to Ileana Evert and has a daughter, Marina, who works in New York, and a son, George, still in high school.

Alexandros P. Mallias is a recipient of the Martin Luther King International Legacy Award ( January 2007, Washington D.C.). He served with 11 Governments and 15 Ministers of Foreign Affairs. Ambassador of Greece to the USA ( 2005-2009) , Political Director for Balkan Affairs at the MFA ( 2000-2005), Ambassador to Albania ( 1999-2000), first Greek Diplomatic Representative to the Republic of North Macedonia (then fYROM) ( 1995-1999), Head of the European Union Monitor Mission Office to Sofia ( 1994), ,First Political Counselor at the Greek Mission to the U.N. Negotiator of the Paris Charter for a New Europe ( Vienna and Paris,1990), Charge d'Affaires in Libya ( 1982-1984), Deputy to the Permanent Representative of Greece to the Council of Europe. Alexandros Mallias, is the author of six books on foreign policy and national security issues .His latest book " Ta Synora - Anatheoritismos" ( The Borders -Revisionism) was published by I SIDERIS publ. last July. He is a frequent speaker and commentator on T.V. and radio. He has published hundreds of articles in newspapers and specialized reviews mostly of foreign affairs.
