Reprint of the lead article of the Syracuse Journal of International Law and Commerce published in July, 1991. 70 pages. The article discusses the analogy between Iraq's aggression against Kuwait and Turkey's aggression against Cyprus. It details Turkey's violations of United States foreign assistance and human rights laws, the United Nations Charter and Security Council resolutions on Cyprus, the North Atlantic Treaty, the London-Zurich Treaty of Guarantee, the European Convention on Human Rights, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and Geneva Convention of 1949. The article discusses the U.S. government's violation of its own laws through the actions of Secretary of State Henry Kissinger and Kissinger's actions which encouraged Turkey's aggression against Cyprus. The article compares President George Bush's handling of Iraq's aggression against Kuwait, based on the rule of law and support of the United Nations Charter and Security Council resolutions, with the illegal actions of Kissinger regarding Turkey's aggression against Cyprus, and his denigration of the United Nations. The final section of the article calls for the application of the Iraq/Kuwait precedent to Turkey. The article contains a wealth of information on the Cyprus problem. The author, Eugene T. Rossides, Senior Counsel in the international law firm of Rogers and Wells, is the founder and a director of the American Hellenic Institute. He served as Assistant Secretary of the U.S. Treasury Department, 1969-1973. Price: $20 Quantity Discounts: 2-49 copies--$15; 50 copies and over--$10.
