AHI Congratulates Pair of Greek Americans for Illinois Primary VictoriesWASHINGTON, DC—The American Hellenic Institute’s (AHI) congratulates two Greek Americans, Illinois State Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias and Metropolitan Water Reclamation District Commissioner Mariyana Spyropoulos, for victories in their respective Illinois Primary races held Tuesday, February 2, 2010. Giannoulias won the Democratic Party’s nomination for U.S. Senate and Spyropoulos, an incumbent, won the nine-person race for the Democratic Party’s nomination for commissioner. Spyropoulos is also an AHI member. “We congratulate fellow Greek Americans Alexi Giannoulias and Mariyana Spyropoulos on their hard-fought victories,” said Executive Director Nick Larigakis. “We applaud the fact that they both take pride in their Hellenic heritage. Of course, we are especially proud that Mariyana Spyropoulos is a member of AHI.” The American Hellenic Institute is a non-profit Greek American think-tank and public policy center that works to strengthen relations between the United States and Greece and Cyprus, and within the Greek American community.
